To claim NO.2 EV seller Spot, Ford Increases Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning Production
After news of a halt in production of the F-150 Lightning, Ford has now revealed it will increase production of Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning vehicles.
Ford has claimed the NO.2 spot among electric vehicle sellers in the United States. With this new status, Ford is looking to keep their title as they have increased the production of Mustang Mach-E, F-150 Lightning, and E-Transit plug-in and battery-electric vehicles. Ford will reduce its price on the Mustang Mach-E as they follow suit with Tesla, the NO.1 electric vehicle seller. The company has boosted manufacturing of the Mustang Mach-E and is now targeting to make 210,000 units by the end of 2023. Ford has made changes at its factory by doubling their hourly assembly to accomplish this goal.
This will be the second time Ford has announced an increase in production of the Mustang Mach-E for 2023. The company is also reinstating production of the F-150 lighting. They paused manufacturing and shipment of the F-150 Lightning last month due to a battery fire outside its plant in Dearborn, Michigan plant. Ford had investigated this and has since started production of the F-150 Lightning once more on March 13, 2023. With these new increases in production, it brings back the information from last January; the company announced it would open a new facility at its factory and add additional equipment to boost production from a previous target of 78,000 vehicles to 130,000 vehicles per year. Ford shows it’s keeping up with its statement to increase manufacturing per year.
The company is also adding another team to its Kansas City plant to increase the production of its E-Transit delivery trucks. The company aims to increase annual production to 38,000 units for the E-Transit and petrol versions. Ford’s popular gasoline-powered vehicles, the Bronco Sport and Maverick pickup trucks, also see increased production targets. Ford has also stated that the F-150 lighting is on track to triple its production, hitting an annual manufacturing rate of 150,000 by the end of this year. Since Ford started its deliveries in 2022 of the F-150 Lightning, the company has sold 19,217. In the last two months since 2023 began, the company has sold 3,600 F-150 Lightning. This vehicle looks like it is on its way to meeting its new target production number.
Ford said it would invest $2 billion in three plants in Michigan to ramp up the production of electric trucks. The customers waiting to get their hands on these vehicles have welcomed the news of this increase in the manufacturing of Ford electric vehicles. Another thing to look forward to is that this new increase in production will let dealers not have to mark up the price for dealer fees. As production increases, prices should be dropping.
