Ford’s Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is Finally Complete
Here’s some exciting news from Ford Motor Company. The American automaker recently resumed production of its F-150 Lightning after a six-week shutdown to expand and retool its Rouge Electric Vehicle Center plant. The Blue Oval expansion will allow the automaker to triple the manufacturing capacity of the award-winning electric truck, meaning the automaker will be able to produce up to 150,000 units per year by this fall (2023). Pretty impressive, right?
The Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is ramping up production of the F-150 Lightning truck! It’s great that the American automaker is eager to unlock supply and meet the growing demand for this captivating vehicle. While the temporary shutdown of the Ford factory may have caused some delays, it’s clear that the facility is now back on track and poised to build more than 70,000 electric trucks in 2023.

Ford recently introduced new tooling to improve the overall quality of their vehicles. It appears that the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center is now using advanced equipment to automatically measure and validate the precision of the exterior body fit for margin and flushness. Interestingly, the new tool support marks Ford’s first time utilizing such instruments in the automaker’s North American plants. In addition, the Blue Oval automaker added a new station to validate wheel alignment and headlamp aim for driver assist technology. It’s great that Ford continually strives to improve its processes and produce top-quality vehicles for the love of Ford enthusiasts.
The American automaker’s training program educates 1,200 new manufacturing employees and will take place over the next three weeks (August 2023). The Blue Oval will ensure rapid onboarding for incoming operators. Ford’s novice operator will be paired with experienced employees in a buddy system.
Ford also plans to ramp up battery pack production at its Rawsonville (Mich.) Components Plant, and in Van Dyke (Mich.) at the Electric Powertrain Center, which is increasing production of EV power units to match the scale of F-150 Lightning assembly at the Rouge Electric Vehicle Center.
