Ford to Focus on Autonomous Vehicles Unit
Ford is once again in the spotlight. This time, the Blue Oval is focusing on the next level of driving, fully autonomous driving. As of late, Ford has been working on its lineup of high-performance EVs like the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E. Ford has enjoyed a lot of praise for its highly capable EVs with many consumers making pre-orders. As Ford continues to produce more EVs, the automaker will also be looking to improve its technology. Having recently split its operations into Ford Blue and Ford Model E, Ford is now turning toward Ford Next. Ford Next is a recent addition that focuses on autonomous vehicles and technology. Ford Next: Focusing on Autonomous Technology
After the release of its two very successful EVs, Ford is once again looking toward the future of the auto industry. Lately, many automakers have been making the transition to electric vehicles. This has been spurred by the global climate crisis as well as the many efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Some automakers like Ford have been able to deftly maneuver this transition producing desirable and highly efficient EVs. With the F-150 Lightning and Mach-E, Ford has solidified itself as a highly capable producer of EVs. Now, as EVs continue to be promoted, Ford is looking to make its next mark on the automotive industry. Here to do that is Ford Next.
Created late last year, Ford Next is responsible for bringing in the next level of advanced technology for vehicles. Ford CEO Jimy Farley created the subsidiary group as a way to develop autonomous technology. Headed by former Renault SA specialist Franck Louis-Victor, Ford Next is set to work alongside startups like Argo AI and ADT Inc. The goal will be to work in various services and businesses to initiate startups using autonomous technology. Ford’s self-driving unit Ford Autonomous Vehicles LLC will also be a part of Ford Next.
Ford’s goal is to dominate the autonomous vehicle sphere. In order to do that, Farley wants the company to act like a startup. This entails finding talented workers in tech to bring onboard. About this new shift in direction, Ford spokeswoman Jennifer Flake said,
“This reflects a more nuanced rebranding and repositioning of an existing group, not creation of a new one or a significant structural shift,” said Jennifer Flake. “It’s our approach to the business model. You use it to foster innovation, you use it to actually incubate new business ideas.”
