2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Already Amassing over 100,000 Orders

Ford has been aiming for the top as it focuses on maintaining its brand and iconic inventory of Ford Built Tough vehicles. With their relaunch of the Ford Bronco, their first hybrid Ford Maverick compact pickup, and now the first-ever all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning, Ford is letting competitors know who the top automaker is. 

2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Sales

Ford CEO Jim Farley recently told investors that the all-new all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning has already gotten 120,000 orders. This is a positive indicator that consumers are ready for the new transition to electric vehicles. It says even more about Ford and its ability to deliver what consumers want. The powerful all-electric pickup has garnered attention as it aims to compete with Tesla’s Cybertruck. Ford has its iconic brand to reach new consumers and the name seems to have a large effect as Farley said about 75% of the orders are from people new to the Ford brand. Speaking further on this Jim Farley said,

“I would say what we’ve learned so far [from Lightning orders] is that the customers are largely new to Ford, but they aren’t new to the segment. These are customers who really like these silhouetted vehicles. What is really interesting for me is some would portray the full-size truck industry as kind of a conservative customer. It’s not what we’re seeing. In this very large order bank for F-150 Lightning, they’re new to BEV [battery electric vehicle], and they are excited to move to BEV. More than half of them are pickup truck customers.” Ford CEO Jim Farley.

All-Electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning Features

The all-new all-electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning comes equipped with 2 inboard motors. These power a standard 4×4 frame which enables near-instant torque to be delivered to all four wheels. In addition, the lithium-ion batteries used by Ford are protected by a unique exo-structure that can act as a shield when off-roading. They are also mounted between the frame rails which allows more interior and bed space. 

As we know, Ford guarantees its vehicles are built Ford Tough. Wanting to make the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning capable of powerful performance and recreation, an independent rear suspension was installed to minimize body roll and isolate road imperfections. This enables a smoother ride as well as more precise handling no matter the terrain.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning has an EPA-estimated mile range of 230 miles (this becomes 300 miles with the range-extending battery). Range-extending battery included, the all-electric pickup offers 564 horsepower and 775lb-ft of torque. It is also capable of 10,000 pounds of towing and 2000 pounds of maximum payload. Drivers can rest assured that their needs are met whether they’re aiming to tow a heavy load or take to the off-road.

Technology Inside the 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning

For charging, Ford boasts the largest public charging network in North America. Standard with all Ford electric vehicles is a 32-amp Ford Mobile Charger which allows charging from 120VC outlets and 240V outlets. An upgradeable 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro paired with an extended-range battery offers a peak charging power of 19.2kW. This 80-amp Ford Charge Station Pro provides drivers with Ford Intelligent Backup Power. This revolutionary feature allows users to power their homes in the case of a power outage for up to three days on a fully charged battery. 

In addition to its charging capabilities, the all-electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning features over-the-air software updates. These enhance features and conveniences offered in the F-150 Lightning. They also provide diagnostics about the pickup. Another technology feature is Ford’s BlueCruise. This advanced feature uses driver-facing cameras and radar sensing technology to allow hands-free driving on prequalified sections of highways called hands-free blue zones (these zones make up more than 100,000 miles of North American roads).

Inside the Ford F-150 Lightning, SYNC4 technology pairs with a 15.5-inch portrait touchscreen. Drivers are given all the information about their vehicle and its software. They can use touchscreen and enhanced voice recognition to access apps, navigation, and cloud-based services.

The 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning is set to begin production in mid-2022. The entry model will start at $39,974 MSRP (plus destination fee).
