The Only Standard Full Hybrid Pickup, Ford’s 2022 Maverick Is Showing Up

Ford has been preparing for a more sustainable future as it focuses its efforts on electric vehicles. Already offering its first all-electric SUV, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, Ford is now offering consumers a hybrid pickup. More compact than the average Ford pickup, the 2022 Ford Maverick is looking to pack a punch with its hybrid powertrain and maneuverability.
The All-New Hybrid 2022 Ford Maverick
Ford’s first hybrid pickup comes equipped with a standard 2.5L full hybrid engine paired with a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Combined with the same hybrid powertrain seen with the Ford Escape, the 2022 Ford Maverick gets 191 horsepower and 155lb-ft of torque. With an EPA-estimated range of 40 mpg, the Built Ford Tough pickup proves a solid choice for those looking for something both versatile and functional. Boasting a payload of 1,500 and a towing capacity of 2,000 pounds, the hybrid pickup provides great maneuverability for those wanting a pickup that isn’t too cumbersome. A smaller and more compact pickup truck that can still get the job done seems to have been the focus with the Ford 2022 Maverick. As Ford’s marketing manager Trevor Scott said,
“The target customer for Maverick is largely a lot of customers that have had to compromise in the vehicles they’re buying today. Maverick is an opportunity to bring new customers into the showroom that wouldn’t have otherwise looked at a truck.”
As Trevor Scott states, the Maverick was made to appeal to a broader range of consumers who may have wanted something resilient, but that isn’t too clunky or oversized. For those looking for the best of both worlds, an optional upgraded tow package for the 2022 Ford Maverick includes a 2.0L EcoBoost engine which packs 250 horsepower and 277lb-ft of torque. This would be more suited for those drivers aiming for bigger and bolder trips as this upgraded package can tow up to 4,000 pounds.
Interior and Exterior of the All-New 2022 Ford Maverick
The all-new 2022 Ford Maverick will be the only unibody pickup truck in Ford’s lineup. It will offer 8.6 inches of ground clearance and come with two-wheel sizes, 17 or 18 inches, depending on the trim. Given its hybrid powertrain and front-wheel drive (intelligent all-wheel drive is optional with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine), 2022 Ford Maverick drivers can enjoy seamless shifting no matter where they are.
Ford’s all-new 2022 Maverick is compact on the outside but spacious on the inside. Capable of comfortably seating five, the interior provides ample room for storage. The four doors of the crew cab come with split armrests which allow door pockets to hold 1.0L bottles. Rear seats flip up for additional storage. Storage nooks surround the center 8-inch touchscreen for more holding space. Deep console storage and a storage tray also accompany the interior of the pickup.
Ford’s 2022 Maverick comes equipped with the latest technology both in the way of infotainment and driver-assisted technology. Ford’s Co-Pilot360™ Technology provides drivers with features such as auto high-beam headlamps, pre-collision assistance with automatic emergency braking, a rearview camera updated with Ford’s Blind Spot Information System (BLIS®), adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping systems, and evasive steering assistance. Ford’s driver-assisted technology helps drivers feel safe and secure whether traveling near or far.
Outside of the 2022 Ford Maverick, recognizable design elements similar to the F-150 can be seen. Some of these features include the four-door crew cab, square corners, vertical ends, C-shaped headlights, a high grille bar, round wheel arches, and the fender badge. A 4.5-foot truck bed (known as Flexbed) capable of housing supplies, equipment, and materials accompanies the compact pickup. Ford’s signature Flexbed features a tailgate that can hold up to 400 pounds. It can be lowered and locked at various positions to fit different-sized materials. The truck bed features dual covered bins, 6 tie-downs, bed lighting, and a 110-volt AV outlet.
The base trim 2022 Ford Maverick will be available in the fall of 2021 at an MSRP of $21,940 (plus destination fees). Those looking for premium features and additional upgrades can opt for a Maverick XLT or Maverick Lariat, depending on preference. One of Ford’s most affordable pickups, the 2022 Ford Maverick is paving the way for hybrid and electric vehicles.
