Sleeping in the Car Never Looked So Good Thanks to a New Ford Patent

Ford is prioritizing comfort for all their vehicles in a new patent that will allow drivers to sleep in style.
Ford Motor Company Patent
CEO Jim Farley prioritized making sleeping in future Ford vehicles comfortable for all their customers. The company has filed for a patent that will allow them to configure its future vehicles to optimize the perfect environment for optimal sleeping on the go. The patent was filed on September 30th, 2021, published on June 6th, 2023, and assigned serial number 11667321.
The patent filed is for a disappearing steering wheel and pedals system, giving the brand new E-Tourneo Custom a folding steering wheel and launching the Max Recline Seats function on the 2021 Ford F-150, even though that unique function has been tough to come by recently because of the chip shortage. This newly filed patent apparently combines factors of all of these ideas into at least one feature, which can make its way into all future Ford vehicles.
This patent combines those ideas into one for those who like to get some rest on the go. Rather than just having seats that recline all the way back or a folding steering wheel, this patent will allow for different methods to clear out some space for even more comfort and relaxation for consumers. Ford has been diligently working to find the best way to achieve this maximizable comfort for a while now, as CEO Jim Farley sees it as a worthwhile proposition. This idea looks to make Ford even more sought after.
The steering wheel is mated to a support system that makes it smooth to stow and saves it when not in use; at this factor, it’d be rendered inoperable for protection purposes. The foot pedals would additionally make use of an actuator that could move them out of the way, at which factor a footrest is delivered to offer a cozy area to stretch out. The seat reclines all the way back, turning the inside of the automobile into a comfy, roomy area to stretch out and sleep.
Some Extra Cool Features of the 2021 Ford F-150
The F-150’s shifter is equipped with a workspace tray that folds out from the center cubby. When pressing the silver button above, the P indicator sends the shifter flush into the console so the tray can lay flat across it. Equipped with 3.6-kW generators and the PowerBoost full-hybrid V-6, an F-150 can act as a portable generator for as much as 64 hours. The surround sound is subtle and enveloping, as speakers are within the headrests. The interior has some hidden surprises that are sweet surprises. There are American flag etchings on either side of the dashboard proudly displayed when the front doors are opened. It also has a 12.0-inch touchscreen and is equipped with shortcut buttons.
