However, the American automaker shifted direction with these plans because of “efforts to reduce global manufacturing cost and complexity, alongside decreased demand for the compact van segment.”
Although it is hard to watch the compact van go, three insiders for the automaker claimed the vehicle’s demise before official news. Compact vans aren’t as enticing to the US. The compact van doesn’t carry the same appeal as the Maverick, Ranger, or the Bronco Sport. Ford’s decision follows in the footsteps of other automakers, such as Ram, which eliminated the ProMaster city van and GM and Nissan for the US market.
Moreover, the Blue Oval assured that the Transit would continue crossing the assembly line at the automaker’s plant in Spain but only distributed in European markets. So don’t get the Transit Connect confused with the full-sized Transit. The Ford Transit is manufactured in Claycomo, the automaker’s plant in Kansas City, Missouri. So the Transit van will continue being sold throughout the US.
