More Autonomy for the Economy. Ford, Walmart, and Argo AI Team Up
Miami, FL, Austin, TX, and Washington, DC will be the first cities to receive the autonomous delivery service from a startup collaboration consisting of Argo AI, Ford Motor Co., and Walmart INC.
The first consolidation testing begins towards the end of this year (2021). With the merger cited as a consumer expectation for next-day and same-day delivery—the desire for instant deliveries accumulated in urban areas where the companies monitored countless deliveries.
At the thermal tap of a button, Walmart customers can place an order for an item in-store, and the autonomous driver delivers it to the customer’s home.
From the point of purchase, Argo AI’s cloud-based system merges with Walmart’s online ordering platform, and the AI system routes the orders and sets the schedule for the delivery. Once the plan is in motion, Ford’s self-driving vehicles pair with Argo’s self-driving system, and the car maneuvers through the city to deliver the order to the customer.

Walmart initially partnered with General Motors (GMC) on the General Motors Cruise. The General Motors Cruise is a self-driving delivery pilot. Walmart also attempted business with other autonomous vehicle startups such as Gatik and Nuro. All previous partnerships were an attempt to execute delivery through autonomous vehicles, but Walmarts recent merger proves unparalleled.
