Ford Reveals New Trademarks for its Baby Trucks
At the beginning of this year (2022), Ford let us grow comfortable with the F-150 Lightning. Although we fell hard for the Lightning, the iconic automaker is ready to unleash the Thunder. The Blue Oval automaker recently applied for trademark filings with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the “F-150 Thunder,” “Ranger Thunder,” and “Maverick Thunder.” Moreover, Ford filed similar applications in Canada.
It’s not clear how Ford intends to use the trademarks. However, we will continue to speculate until we learn more about the Thunder trademark. For example, the Thunder name may be an on play to the F-150 Lightning. The other possibility is that the Thunder name may render a more powerful plug-in hybrid.
Additionally, the rumor mill suggests that the Ranger may receive a PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle). However, the Ford F-150 and Maverick are already fully equipped with hybrid engines, with no mention of a plug-in option anytime soon. Another interesting point is that whatever hybrid powertrain the Ranger receives, so will the Bronco, a fierce competitor to the Jeep Wrangler 4xe. Unfortunately, the last time we checked, Ford didn’t file a trademark for the Bronco Thunder.
The trademark has no relation to the Thunder lineup’s powertrain. Therefore, the Thunder may serve as an appearance package. Not too long ago, Ford premiered a limited-edition Ranger Thunder in Europe for 2020. The 2020 Limited Edition Ranger Thunder revealed a steamy look with dark Sea Gray paint, 18-inch black alloy wheels, red accents, and Ebony black bumpers and skid plates. Additionally, the 2020 Ranger Thunder attained Ebony Leather seats. So we may anticipate the same stormy appeal for all three future Thunder pickups.
Ford hasn’t denied the idea of constructing a more street-oriented pickup truck. Yet whose to contest the automaker’s intentions of a stormy appeal with performance upgrades plus enhanced on-road tires. We are uncertain of when the Ford Thunder trucks will arrive. However, we expect the pickup trucks to dominate the 2023 model year. Moreover, we look forward to learning more about the Thunder trucks by autumn (September-December 2022).
