The Blue Oval City does it again, igniting another groundbreaking collaboration. Manufacture 2030, the partnership will help Ford achieve its global carbon reduction for carbon neutrality by 2050. However, the American Automaker intends to achieve carbon neutrality for the European market much sooner with the target year 2035.

Ford has never been scared to set the pace and maintain the rhythm for the automotive market. The automaker continues its persistence as the first American automaker to collab with M2030. Moreover, Manufacture 2030 is a global supply chain platform determined to assist suppliers in observing and decreasing carbon emissions.

It’s no secret that the Blue Oval automaker produces more vehicles and hires more workers than any other car maker in the US. In fact, Ford was one of the first automakers to partner with the global community. Moreover, the international relationship functioned to curb the impacts of global warming in reaction to the Paris Climate Agreement.

“Achieving carbon neutrality for Ford is an important corporate goal and integral to our purpose to help build a better world. It is becoming a strong demand from our customers, shareholders and investors, and the supply chain is essential in achieving this goal. Hitting our targets will require we cut emissions across our entire value chain, particularly from purchased energy, goods and services. M2030 is a key program for Ford to help us all in not only reporting emissions but in forming realistic action plans and glidepaths to achieving our goals.”

– Ford Global Vice President, Supply Chain, Jonathan Jennings

The first phase of the M2030 collaboration will premiere 5,000 Tier 1 voluntary platforms for global supplier areas disseminated across 66 countries. In addition to supply dissemination, phase 1 features suppliers that need more transparency about their carbon reduction techniques. In other words, the M2030 platform will assist suppliers with selecting the proper steps to calculate, supervise, and decrease carbon emissions.

“This is a powerful example of how Ford’s scale and proven industrial expertise can help accelerate the shift to EVs and support a diverse supply chain that is good for people and the planet, and good for business. By working together and leveraging our collective expertise, we believe this platform will help our suppliers deliver significant carbon reductions and greater positive impact.”

– Global Director Sustainability, Homologation and Compliance at Ford, Cynthia Williams

The demand for electric vehicles continues to climb as the Blue Oval recently announced several enterprises that will source battery capacity and raw materials. In addition, the initiatives will allow the Mustang maker to achieve its yearly run rate of 600,000 electric cars before 2023 ends and 2 million by 2026. Nevertheless, even with the American automaker focusing on new EV supply chain obligations that encourage sustainability and respect for human rights, Ford asserts that its global production will incorporate 50 percent of its electric vehicles by 2030.
