Ford F-150 Lightning: A Halloween-worthy Pickup Truck

 Ryan McManus, the Product Design Director at Ford, has taken his Halloween game to the next level. Last year, he transformed his Mustang Mach-E’s frunk into a candy dispensary, but this year, he has outdone himself by creating an even more impressive setup on his new F-150 Lightning. With his creativity and ingenuity, Ryan has made sure that the trunk-or-treaters in his neighborhood had an unforgettable experience this Halloween.

Trunk-or-treating has become an increasingly popular activity among parents and guardians who have young children during the Halloween season. This activity is typically held in school or church parking lots, where parents go to great lengths in decorating their vehicles to add to the festive atmosphere. The creative decorations include everything from spooky themes to colorful and fun designs, intended to create an exciting and safe environment for the children.

Rather than going door to door to collect treats, children can go from car to car in the parking lot to enjoy the experience of trick-or-treating. This makes it a safer alternative to traditional trick-or-treating. 

Ryan McManus, a Ford designer, has taken the concept of trunk-or-treating to a whole new level with his electric Ford F-150 Lightning. He did this last year by experimenting with a Cyber Orange Mustang Mach-E GT, which he transformed into a demon’s mouth. The car was complete with foam core teeth and strobe lights and became an instant hit with both children and adults. The car’s frunk was filled with candy and treats, making it a fun and memorable experience for everyone.

This year (2023), McManus repeated the success of his previous year’s design by using his F-150 Lightning to create a unique and exciting Halloween experience. With his design skills and creativity, it was a hit with the children and adults alike.

With absolute confidence, he set up a small HDTV and created a quick “spooky” rendering of red clouds and swirling mists that gave it the perfect “hellmouth” effect. Next, he added a smoke machine behind the TV, along with red strobe lights that might have spooked his neighbors for a bit. He then added foam core teeth, similar to those he used in his previous year’s Mach-E effort. But this time, McManus smartly excluded the bottom row of teeth to make it easier for kids to reach the candy kept in the “cooler” area of the frunk. To take the ambiance to another level, he added a “Fast and Furious-style” underglow kit that is sound reactive and changes color according to the music. Every piece of the F-150 Lightning’s theatrics is powered by its battery, which is even more impressive.
