Ford is preparing for the future with its transition to electric vehicles. With new vehicles like the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the all-new all-electric Ford F-150 Lightning, the automaker is expanding its reach within the automotive sphere. Ford CEO Jim Farley recently announced that a Ford Explorer electric vehicle was in development. This comes as part of Ford’s larger transition toward EVs. The Ford Explorer has been around for a while. Electrifying the iconic family-sized SUV may help entice consumers who may be interested in electric vehicles as was the case with the Ford Mustang and F-150 Lightning. Let’s look further at what Ford envisions for the future.

Electric Ford Explorer on the Way?

Ford has been making headlines with its recent line of electric vehicles. The Ford Mustang Mach-E has received a lot of attention given its capabilities and dynamic driving experience. It has received many orders which is indicative of the future of electric vehicles. The Ford F-150 Lightning has also generated a lot of attention. Ford understands that consumers are most likely to purchase or show interest in something that is familiar to them. This can be seen with the latest electric vehicle to come from Ford, the Ford Explorer.

According to Ford Ceo Jim Farley, the all-electric Ford Explorer is set to launch in 2023. It will be built at the Ford Cuautitlan Assembly Plant in Mexico alongside the Ford Mustang Mach-E. The family-sized SUV is one of Ford’s most successful vehicles so it may entice many more consumers to consider it when it goes electric. Currently, the SUV is available in a hybrid and plug-in hybrid version, though the plug-in hybrid isn’t available in North America. The hybrid Ford Explorer utilizes Ford’s 3.3L Duratec 33 engine paired with an electric motor which is capable of 318 horsepower and 322lb-ft of torque. The plug-in hybrid Ford Explorer utilizes a 3.0L EcoBoost V6 engine with an electric motor, generator, and 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery capable of 450 horsepower and 608lb-ft of torque. A fully electric Ford Explorer will probably make use of the lithium-ion battery as well as an extended-range battery.

Ford is gearing up for its next transition to electric vehicles. The automaker is eyeing North America and Europe and it plans to utilize its iconic vehicles to better market the transition. The all-electric Ford Explorer will launch in 2023. There have also been talks of an electric Ford Bronco. We will have to wait and see how Ford markets the new electric vehicles, but from the Mustang Mach-E and the F-150 Lightning, it looks like they won’t have much trouble.
